Window Treatment Wednesday--Blue Prints on Fabric
Welcome to Window Treatment Wednesday--a weekly blog post where I share out of the box ideas and inspiration for your window treatments. Today's project is blue prints on fabric; technically it's called a cyanotype. I saw this lovely project done by Martha Stewart on Pintrest and I knew I had to try it, too.
Introducing Blue Prints on Fabric...
This set was made with the lavender that lines my driveway.

I used the perennial, Coral Bells, from my friend's garden for this set. The coral bells were so delicate I decided to add a vintage crystal earring to jazz it up a bit.

I love the saturated blue color of this fabric. I used a weed from my garden to design this print. I thought it resembled a fern. You start viewing plants differently when you only have a 2 1/2 inch canvas on which to work!

This last set is quite delicate and was made using simple Rye grass. I think it has a simple and modern design aesthetic.

I found the website, Blue Prints on Fabric, and ordered some fabric to experiment with right away. There I learned that a cyanotype is actually a photographic print in white on a bright blue background on cloth or paper sensitized with potassium ferricyanide. Pretty cool, huh? I plan on sharing a step by step tutorial soon but wanted to show you what I created today. I ordered 6 x 6 squares from the website but they also have full yardage of fabric for window treatments or any other type of craft project. I thought the squares would work perfectly for my tie back buttons.

All my life I have tried to pluck a thistle and plant a flower wherever the flower would grow in thought and mind.

I love the nature inspired blue prints. How beautiful. It's a great way to add a pop of color to tan or white curtains!
