Downhome Travels: Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives
I think I've mentioned before that my boys are foodies so The Food Network is one channel that we all can agree to watch. One of their favorite shows is Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. When we scheduled a campus visit to the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse for Sam, we decided to take a trip to Flavortown. Minneapolis has over 20 triple D locations and was only 3 hours from LaCrosse. Our first stop was the
Q Fanatic in Champlin, MN.

We tried the ribs, brisket and pulled pork. One of the best parts, was sampling all the types of sauces.

It was very good and the boys gave it 8.5-9 out of 10 or third on the list of best BBQ that they've had. The best we've ever eaten was at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Syracuse, New York.
For lunch the next day we visited the Colossal Cafe in Saint Paul. It's a tiny, little place but we were happy to sit outside at the tables provided. Everything is fresh and made from scratch.

Mr. Upscale and I split the meatloaf sandwich with cranberry sauce. It was super yummy!

That evening we went to the Nook which USA Today ranked as having the best burger in Minnesota. It's in the Highland Park neighborhood of Saint Paul. There was an hour wait and we got there before 6. When people wait that long to get in, you know it's got to be good!

We all ordered stuffed burgers because that's what they specialize in; Mr. Upscale and I split
"Guys Big Bite Burger". We all gave it a thumbs up for sure. The wait staff was excellent and atmosphere fun. We still can't decide what is the best burger we've ever eaten so we definitely need to try a few more!

The boys really enjoyed visiting the spots they've seen on tv. If you'd like to find a Triple D location near you, check out the Flavortown, USA map. If you do go to one, let me know how you like it!

A crust eaten in peace is better than a banquet partaken in anxiety.

Have you been to any Triple D locations? Do you watch the show?

What a great trip! I've never looked at the Flavortown map, but will have to check it out before going on my next big vacation. You never know what amazing eats might be lurking at your destination.
